“Labour Sector strong despite retrenchments”
Dear Ms. Sant,
The Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development wishes to clarify a statement that was referenced by your reporter Anna Lisa Paul in Guardian’s Newspaper article on Page A12 dated Monday, August 19, 2019; the title of which is the subject of this letter.
In the article, Ms. Paul would have stated that the Minister “shrugged off widespread criticisms from the trade union movement, that she had turned against them and had sold out the working class citizens” which is inaccurate.
The Ministry wishes to indicate that throughout the Minister’s interview, at NO time was this statement posed to the Minister to warrant any response as was stated in the article.
The Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development wishes to emphasise that the broadcast standards of journalists must be upheld when reporting on events, to safeguard the reputation and credibility of the newspaper.
As the Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development, I remain committed to working on realising the mandate of the Ministry and the Government, through the continued partnerships with all stakeholders.
Yours in Service,
Senator the Honourable Jennifer Baptiste Primus
Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development
